How to Make the Most of Your Day at Disneyland

How to Make the Most of Your Day at Disneyland

I’ve lived in Southern California most of my life. I was born here and grew up within walking distance to Disneyland and I have been, in my best approximation, over fifty times. I have been there on special company events, grad night, holidays, busy times, not so busy times, and rainy days. Here are a few tips I’ve picked up along the way on how to make the most of your day at Disneyland.

Space Mountain

Always try to ride Space Mountain first thing in the morning or try to make it your first fastpass of the day. It is common for the fastpasses to go quick on this ride. I have even seen the return time for 5pm early in the morning. As the day gets later, the line gets longer. The last time I was at Disneyland, I was able to ride Space Mountain three times with a fastpass. This is generally unheard of, but I was able to do it because two other time I got the “golden ticket” through MaxPass.

MaxPass in one of Disney’s newest additions. It is an add-on to your entry ticket that runs $10. MaxPass allows you to get a fastpass for many of their attractions without having to physically go there. You use your phone to select which ride you want to go on and the app gives you a timeframe to go on that ride. Not having to physically go to the ride to get your fastpass is a huge time saver. Believe me, you will spend a large chunk of your day just walking back and forth from ride to ride getting a fastpass. However, you need to be careful about how you use MaxPass to get a fastpass. You can only get one pass at a time so it is best to choose a ride that doesn’t give you a timeframe more than an hour or two out. Once you’ve used your fastpass, you are welcome to get another.

MaxPass also allows you to download ride pictures to your phone. This is a great feature because you get a good quality photo instead of having to take a picture of the screen.

By the way, if the ride you selected happens to close while you hold a fastpass, through MaxPass, you will get what I refer to as the “golden ticket”. The “golden ticket” allows you to choose whatever other ride you want to go on and is the only time you can have more that one fastpass.

Wednesday & Rainy Days

Wedenesday is the best day! Why? I’m not exactly sure, but I think it has to do with people leaving the resort from vacation. If you have the chance, go on Wednesday. But, don’t go in the summer or around a holiday – major crowds.

If you happen to be in town during a very very rare rain storm, go to Disneyland. Even better, go on a rainy Wednesday. Most of the attractions are indoors, so you only need to carry a small umbrella or wear a poncho.

These are just a few ways you can make the most of your day at Disneyland. I will continue to update this post as I think of other Disneyland tips.
